Louisiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Sulphur.

Trooper Matt Gaspard said shortly after 6 p.m. detectives with the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division were requested by the Sulphur Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 600 block of South Kent Street.

Sulphur Police Major Jason Gully said officers  were dispatched to an address earlier that afternoon on South Kent Drive in reference to a disturbance.

“Officers arrived on scene and learned that a male subject had fled the scene on foot and possibly had a handgun on him,” Gully said.  “Officers set up a perimeter and began searching the area. At approximately 5:20 pm, officers located the subject in a nearby shed.”

Gully said a struggle ensued and shots were fired. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information,” Gaspard said.

He said one person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“No officers were harmed during the incident,” he said.

Anyone with information and/or pictures and video is urged to share that information with detectives. Reports can be made anonymously report through the Louisiana State Police online reporting system by visiting lsp.org and clicking on Report Suspicious or Criminal Activity, or calling the LSP Fusion Center Hotline at 1-800-434-8007.
