    Sulphur Springs High School celebrated the achievements of their 27 top 10% graduates at the annual Honors Breakfast Tuesday morning at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center.

    Honorees gathered, accompanied by their parents and their teachers of honor, early Tuesday morning to celebrate their numerous and impressive accomplishments.

    Honorees included: Madelynn Bailey plans to attend Oklahoma State University to pursue a nursing degree. She was accompanied by Mrs. Amber Warren, who she said was like her second mom. Bailey has served as varsity cheer captain; powerlifting team captain; Key Club president; member of Hopkins County Leadership, Student Council; Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Business Professionals Association, Future Farmers of America (FFA), Connect@School, Meet the Wildcat, UIL Cheer competition semifinalist and Floral Design Championship winner; Kody Barclay plans to attend Texas Tech University and hopes to work at either FBI or CIA. He was accompanied by teacher Mylissa Bailey, who he said helped him tremendously and helped him grow. Barclay’s accomplishments include being a member of National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society; Student Council Secretary; and varsity football and baseball.

    Coen Bell plans to attend University of Texas at Austin and hopes to become a successful entrepreneur. His teacher of honor was Mylissa Bailey, who Bell said had a profound impact on his life inside and outside of the clasroom.” Bell’s accomplishments include serving as Student Council Vice-President for two years and being a fouryear member of both FFA and Key Club.

    Talley Brown plans to attend Texas A&M University and wants to become a Disney or Pixar digital animator. Brown’s teacher of honor was Shannon Welch, who Brown described as “amazing at what she does” and “cares deeply for her students.” Brown’s accomplishments include being a member of HOSA, NHS, NTHS and Regional Orchestra.

    Landon Burkett plans to attend Texas A&M University and wants to become an architect. Burkett’s teacher of honor was Christina Davis. Burkett said, “Mrs. Davis had a great impact on my school, career and life choices. She is extremely supportive.” Burkett’s accomplishments include NHS, Bright Star Baseball, Student Council, Key Club Officer, Baseball (freshman through junior years) and becoming a certified AutoCAD user.

    Levi Caton plans to attend Texas A&M University and wants to become a business owner. Burkett’s teacher of honor was Spencer Emmert. Caton said Emmert “has influenced my future greatly. He has pushed me to achieve greatness.” Caton’s accomplishments include marching, jazz and concert bands, NHS, NTHS and FFA.

    Betzy Chacon plans to attend Texas Women’s University and hopes to become a labor and delivery nurse. Her teacher of honor was Susana Sanchez, who Chacon said “helped me to understand the importance of education at a young age.” Chacon’s activities and awards include NHS, NTHS, UIL, Student Council, HOSA and Key Club.

    Carter Charlton plans to attend Texas A&M University and wants to practice veterinary medicine. Charlton’s teacher of honor was Bryan Cole, her Destination Imagination coach, who Charlton said gave her the opportunity to be creative. Charlton’s accomplishments include serving as drill team co-captain and NHS.

    Kylie Clarke plans to attend Texas Christian University and work in business, especially finance and entrepreneurship. Clarke’s teacher ofhonorwasLynnSmith,who Clarke said “made an incredible impact on my life from the first day I walked in freshman year. She encouraged my love for Business Professionals of America (BPA) and sparked my love for business. She is not just a teacher to me. She is family.” Clarke’s accomplishments include NHS, NTHS, Student Council, Key Club Officer, Varsity Cheerleading Captain, Soccer — First team, All-District, Team Most Valuable Player, BPA Vice-President, Class of 2024 Vice-President and NCA All-American Cheerleader.

    Anely Gaspar plans to attend Texas A&M University at Commerce and to become an accountant. Her teacher of honor was Renee Maeker, who she said “has never failed to put a smile on my face. She is like my school mom.” Gaspar’s accomplishments include being a Key Club member for three years, BPA, Hopkins County Leadership and UIL Accounting.

    Jaci Haire plans to attend Texas Tech University and plans to become the marketing manager of a professional sports organization. Her teacher of honor was Trevor McClure, who “made school fun, and I genuinely looked forward to school because of his class.” Haire’s accomplishments include Key Club, Student Council, varsity track and field, Hopkins County Leadership, NHS, NTHS and being a member of League Street Church of Christ.

    Celeste Hernandez Chavarria plans to attend Texas Women’s University and plans to become a nurse practitioner. Her teacher of honor was Connor Dawes, who “showed me how to have confidence within myself and always encouraged me to try out new things.” Hernandez Chavarria’s accomplishments include participating in NHS, Key Club, NTHS, HOSA, Color Guard and UIL Academics.

    Jessie Li plans to attend University of Texas at Austin and to become a pharmacist. Her teacher of honor was Gerald Grafton, who she said “is not only my role model and inspiring teacher, he is one of my biggest supporters on and off the tennis courts.” Li’s accomplishments include being varsity tennis captain, a NHS member, participating in UIL Calculator Applications and Science, a Latino History Essay State Finalist and being a regional girls’ singles tennis competitor and MVP.

    Logan McCain’s school of choice is Stephen F. Austin State University. She plans to become a nurse. Her teacher of honor is Gerald Grafton, who is her favorite teacher because he made math easy for me. McCain’s accomplishments include being an NHS member and Color Guard Captain, and earning an academic excellence scholarship from Stephen F. Austin State University.

    Kathryn Monk plans to attend the University of Alabama, and her future plans include working in business or social media marketing. Her teacher of honor was Amy Ridner, who “has been a second mother to me throughout high school and always makes me laugh.” Monk’s accomplishments include being President of Hi King Club and HOSA, varsity volleyball (Second Team All-District, Academic All-State), a member of Key Club, NHS, NTHS, Hopkins County Leadership and NETLA.

    Katlyn Noe plans to attend Oklahoma State University to become an aerospace and mechanical engineer. Her teacher of honor was Whitney Spigener, who Noe said always motivated her in the classroom and on the golf course. Noe’s accomplishments include serving as Student Council treasurer and NHS secretary, being a member of Key Club, NTHS, SSHS Golf, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Rotary Youth Leaders Award recipient, participating in Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy and being named alternate in the UIL State Calculator Applications competition.

    Tomi Pirtle plans to attend Texas Tech University to work in pharmaceuticals. Her teacher of honor was Madison Millsap for cheering her on and always being there for her.

    Annaston Price plans to attend East Texas Baptist University, majoring in pediatric occupational therapy. Price’s teacher of honor was Lynn Smith, who “was so helpful through BPA, helping me to find scholarships and to find a job. She always goes above and beyond, and she has a special place in my heart.” Price’s accomplishments include serving as Student Council reporter, BPA treasurer and NTHS secretary; participating in SSHS varsity soccer, Hopkins County Leadership, NHS, Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy and Key Club. She is a College Board National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program recipient; a state qualifier in intermediate word processing and banking and finance for BPA; and a second team All-District and All-Academic Player of the Year for soccer.

    Jolene Reed plans to attend Stephen F. Austin State University and major in creative writing. Her teacher of honor was Gail Herman, who “helped me become a better writer and supported my aspirations. She has become a dear friend of mine.” Reed’s accomplishments include NHS, SSHSTheatre,Captainof Dead Poets Society Poetry Club, author of eight books and a UIL Journalism participant.

    Haylee Shultz plans to attend University of Texas at San Antonio to become a registered dietician. Her teacher of honor was Casey Jeter, “who helped in my development as an athlete and as a person. I am forever grateful to him.” Shultz’s activities include varsity powerlifting, being named 2024 State Powerlifting Champion, being a member of the varsity soccer team, which was named 2024 District Champs, fourth round playoff run.

    Catherine Starzyk plans to attend Mississippi State University to study veterinary medicine. Her teacher of honor was John Holland, who encouraged her to become involved in FFA and helped her whenever she needed it.

    Starzyk’s accomplishments include serving as drum major and FFA officer and participating in NHS, NTHS and Key Club.

    Alexis Tanton plans to attend University of Texas at Tyler tobecomeapediatricnurse practitioner with a double minor in criminal justice and psychology. Tanton’s teacher of honor was Megan Tingle, who “has always encouraged me to do my best and strive for success. She supported me in my decisions, stood alongside me, laughed and cried with me, believed in me and truly inspired me. She is a wonderful mentor, role model and educator.” Tanton served as Student Council President for two years; NTHS member for two years and current Treasurer; member of NHS, HOSA FCCLA, Key Club, Hopkins County Leadership, Paris Junior College Phi Theta Kappa and Texas All-Academic team. She is a certified clinical medical assistant, a Rotary Youth Leadership Award recipient and graduate of Paris Junior College with an Associate degree in Multidisciplinary Studies.

    Kami White plans to attend Texas A&M University at Commerce Honors College to become an optometrist. Her teacher of honor was Gail Herman. She said, “Through the ups and downs, Ms. Herman has challenged me to push myself in the classroom and through UIL.” White’s ac-complishments include flute section leader in band; twotime marching band soloist, Area flute player, UIL Spelling and Vocabulary State Champion and recognized Rural and Small Town AP Scholar.

    Anna Williams plans to attend Texas A&M University to become an orthopedic surgeon or physicians assistant. Her teacher of honor was Sarah Goggans, who Williams “invited because she had a positive impact on my life.” Williams’ accomplishments include being a member of NHS, NTHS, HOSA, Student Council, Key Club, Premier Youth Livestock Association and Chick-Fil-A Leadership, She is a four-year member of the Lady Wildcats varsity soccer team, serving as captain for three of the four years. She played club soccer for eight years and has been a dancer at the Ardis Center of Performing Arts for 15 years.

    Macey Williams plans to attend Baylor University to be a speech pathologist. Her teacher of honor was Tracie Danheim, who “was there for me through my toughest years in school. No matter what she had going on, she always made time to help me.” Williams’ accomplishments include being a member of NHS, NTHS, Hopkins County Leadership, Drill Team, Key Club, BPA and FCCLA.
