In an impressive display of talent and dedication, 14 students from Sulphur Springs High School choir earned medals at the Texas State Solo & Ensemble contest in Pflugerville on May 27. The event, held annually, showcases the musical prowess of high school students from across the state.

Among the medalists, eight students — Ben Lovelady, Mikel Godwin, Mika Boren, Celeste Mc-Coy, Mars Patterson, Xen Simmons, Kaisy Garcia-Hidalgo, Jamie Tavera — distinguished themselves by earning First Division medals.

SSHS Choir instructor Beth Cole said this is 'a testament to their exceptional individual performances. These students demonstrated remarkable skill and artistry, impressing the judges with their mastery of challenging solo pieces.'

In addition to individual achievements, the spirit of collaboration was also celebrated. Eight students — Jaya Smith, Ben Lovelady, Mikel Godwin, Mika Boren, Celeste McCoy, Mars Patterson, Xen Simmons, Caitlin Foster — also received First Division Ensemble medals, 'highlighting their ability to work harmoniously and deliver outstanding group performances.'

Additional students earned second division ratings at state. They included Adriana Espinosa, Katie Henderson, Braylen Savage and Karisma Stegient.

'These achievements are the result of countless hours of practice, guidance from dedicated teachers, and unwavering support from families. SSHS choir would like to extend a very special shout out to our accompanists Mary Ellen Kirkland, Melissa Bilyeu, and Chad Houk,' Cole said. 'Their achievements highlight the vibrant talent within our community and promise a bright future for these young artists,' the SSHS Choir instructor noted.
