The summer leagues at JP’s Classic Lanes are rolling along as this is written. This will be the last report before we crank up again in August to cover the 20242025 season.

This is a great time to look back at the past year and highlight some of the best individual performances.

Throughout the year this report has honored the highest scratch scores and today we will give accolades to the highest handicap performances also. The handicap system is one of the things that makes league bowling a great sport in that average bowlers have a chance to compete with better bowlers. Very often a high handicap honor is taken by a bowler who scores well above their average.

Dereck McClure cranked out an impressive 296 for men’s high game in Sunday’s This Ain’t Yo Momma’s Bowling League, and Dwayne Shumann popped a 747 for high series. Kyra Jenkins paced the ladies scratch scores for the season, blasting a 246 game and 640 series. Trenton Daugherty took handicap honors for the men, tallying a 294 game and 756 series. Lisa Todd catapulted her 129 average to an impressive 281 game and 718 series to top the ladies’ handicap scores. Kelly Shields racked up the high average for the men at 206.89 and Kyra Jenkins stormed to a season average of 182.50. Chistopher Todd boosted his initial 122 average 22.69 pins for most improved.

The Fall Monday Trio League witnessed Doug Eitler smoke a perfect 300 game and 737 series for scratch honors. With a small handicap, his 311 topped the men’s handicap also. David Vansickle scored big for a 771 handicap series for the men. A very familiar name to readers of this report, Debby Essary was all over the honor scores for the ladies with a 289 scratch game, 304 handicap score, 716 scratch series and 749 handicap. She also carried a high average for the distaff side at 198.30. The aforementioned Doug Eitler paced the men’s high average with 198.98. Sherry Lyons improved her average 13.01 pins to best that category.

David Strain blasted a 263 scratch game to lead scratch scoring in the Tuesday Mixed League. JP’s Classic Lanes Tarry Davison led the series with a 695. Carrie Shields scored a 213 for ladies’ high scratch game and Kyra Jenkins posted a 583 for season honors. David Strain had the high handicap game with 282 and Justin Haggerty crashed a 753 for series lead. Carrie Shields also had the high handicap game at 258 and Amy Austin took the high series with a 720. David leads in the high season average category, boasting a 208.86. Kyra Jenkins owns a high average for the ladies with 189.52. Adam Thompson boosted his average 9.61 pins for most improved.

The season high game for the men in Wednesday afternoon’s Senior league was a 245 fired by Jim Beard. Jim Brinkely captured the high scratch series in the league with a solid 604. It is easy to report the top scorer for the ladies, since Mine’s In The Gutter Lori Guffey took it all: high scratch game 233, high scratch series 592, high handicap game 268 and high handicap series 697. Jim Brinkley took the handicap honors in this league with a 275 game and 709 series. The Pin Pals scored big in the handicap area, with Cyndie Ewert rolling a 278 game and Monica Graves marking a 700 series. The Highest average for the men was Robert Smith at 189.57 and Lori Guffey averaged 162.81 to lead the ladies. Jack Sanders was the most improved bowler for the season, adding over 21 pins to his beginning 130 average.

The heavy hitters in the Thursday Commercial League were topped by Tarry Davison’s 299 scratch and Shayne Wilson’s 793. Kyra Jenkins posted top scratch scores of 279 games and 730 series. The “JP” in JP’s Classic Lanes reeled in honors for handicap scoring with a 297 game and 766 series. Amanda Gunnels rolled a 290 handicap game and Kyra Jenkins led with a 757 series. Tarry Davison had a men's high average with a massive 225.69 Kyra Jenkins carried a 191.42. Abraham Ortiz raised his average an impressive 27.53 pins for most improved.

Until later, good luck and good bowling.
