SUMMERSVILLE, WV (WOWK) – A West Virginia man has been reported missing in the Summersville Lake area.

West Virginia State Police and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources officers are searching for a 44-year-old man from the Morgantown area, according to Lieutenant Mike Coberly with WV DNR. Coberly says the man had gone on what his family is calling a “day trip” to Summersville Lake, and called WVSP when he didn’t return home.

According to Coberly, a stamp on a permit ticket belonging to the man says he arrived at 4:12 p.m. Sunday, July 14. His vehicle was found along Battle Run Beach, and some of his belongings – including his cell phone, keys and some clothing – were found nearby on a picnic table. Coberly says.

Coberly says this is considered a missing persons case and that authorities do not know yet if the man went into the water or if he went on a walk/hike.
