Summit County Sheriff’s Office seeks volunteers for full-scale active shooter training
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a full-scale active shooter training exercise on Aug. 7. The exercise will take place at various locations between Frisco and Breckenridge, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. It is a collaborative exercise involving law enforcement, local firefighting crews, EMS first responders, the Summit School District, Colorado Mountain College, St. Anthony Summit Hospital as well as community stakeholders and numerous state and federal agencies.

5 years ago: Work begins on $80 million Fourth Street Crossing development in Silverthorne. The town of Silverthorne’s decade-long dream of building a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use ‘Main Street’ is about to be fully realized. Arvada-based construction corporation Millender White announced this week that it had closed the deal and started work on the $80 million Fourth Street Crossing development. The Fourth Street Crossing complex will be built between Third and Fourth streets off Highway 9, just north of the Interstate 70 interchange. It will encompass 13 buildings across a 3.8-acre site spanning two blocks between Highway 9 and Adams Avenue, and will include a 29,000-square-foot market hall featuring drinks and dining.

A pair of Vail pickleball instructors are headed to the 2024 USA Pickleball National Championship this November in Mesa, Arizona. Juli Young and Mike Leigh won the 5.0 mixed doubles in the 70+ age group on Thursday at the USA Pickleball Golden Ticket qualifier event in Arvada. Young also paired up with Summit local Lori Miller to win the 4.0 women’s doubles on Wednesday.

Spotting wildfires early gets firefighters on scene faster and enables them to extinguish flames before they can spread. After recently installing a Pano AI camera, supported by Xcel Energy, firefighters in Summit County, CO praised the system’s early detection capabilities. As CBS News reports, the early notice provided by the fire-spotting cameras alerted Breckenridge emergency responders, who contained the outbreak to an area covering less than an eighth of an acre.
