    Get Set for Fireworks at the Fourth of July Celebration in Summit

    SUMMIT, NJ -- With 72 million travelers set to hit the road this holiday weekend, local residents staying home are sure to have a blast at Summit’s Fourth of July Celebration on Thursday.

    The 77 th edition commemorating Independence Day features lots of fun during several events planned throughout the day, highlighted by a spectacular firework display you won’t want to miss.

    “This is one of the most anticipated events of the year and we have a fantastic lineup of activities planned for everyone to enjoy,” said Mayor Elizabeth Fagan, MD.

    Soldiers Memorial Field, located at 5 Myrtle Ave., is the place to be as things kick off with the flag raising at noon, followed by a decorated bicycle parade for children at 12:15 p.m.  The community celebration will include entertainment, rides and amusements, and a food court.

    Entertainment will include concerts beginning at 1PM. The event will conclude with a fireworks display beginning at 9:15 p.m.

    The walking track, playground, tennis courts, and lower fields at Memorial Field will close at 1 p.m. to prepare for the fireworks display. Roads adjacent to the field will close to vehicle traffic at 6 p.m. The parking lot on Ashland Road next to the Memorial Field tennis courts will be closed all day on Thursday, July 4.

    “It’s going to be a day of joy, community spirit and patriotism,” the Mayor said.

    The schedule for the event is as follows:

    • 12 p.m. food court opens

    • 12 p.m. flag raising ceremony

    • 12:15 p.m. decorated bike parade for children

    • 12:45 pm. announcement of bike parade winners

    • 1 p.m. Owls and Lions in concert

    • 2:45 p.m. Arena Rock Tribute Band in concert

    • 4 p.m.  Children’s music

    • 5 p.m.  Shorty Long and the Jersey Horns in concert

    • 6:30 p.m.  Magic show

    • 7:30 p.m. Daddy Pop in concert

    • 9 p.m. Lowering of the colors

    • 9:15 p.m. Fireworks
