A South Carolina man was recently killed and a woman was taken into custody, according to the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office .

The shooting was the result of a domestic violence related incident , the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

On July 2, deputies responded to a call about a shooting victim at the Quality Inn on Paxville Highway , according to the release. That’s near Exit 119 on Interstate 95.

At the motel, deputies discovered a man lying on the upper landing of the second-floor stairwell, the sheriff’s office said. The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office said the man, identified 28-year-old Sumter resident Abram Bernardo Walker Jr., died at the scene, according to the release.

Carrie Anastasia Woodberry, a 27-year-old Sumter resident, was in possession of a handgun, the sheriff’s office said. She was taken into custody and was held at the Clarendon County Detention Center where she was awaiting charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

Information about what led to the shooting was not available, but the sheriff’s office said “this appears to be a domestic violence related incident between Woodberry and Walker.”

The sheriff’s office did not immediately respond to messages seeking more information.

The shooting continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office, which asked anyone with information to call 803-435-4415.
