    Patchers continue to honor veterans in Sun City West

    Four combat veterans were honored March 20 with quilts and recognition by the Palo Verde Patchers Club.

    Lt. Col. David T. Olsen, Sr. was a career officer serving from 1952 to 1954 in North Korea, and from 1962 to 1966 flying aircraft with supplies to Vietnam. In 1970 he was chief pilot for all AC119G Shadow Gunships in Vietnam. Olsen retired from military service in 1976.

    Bruce J. Mitchell joined the Army in 1967 and served three years to 1970. He earned two Purple Hearts while serving with the 173rd Airborne Division.

    Bill Irwin served in the Air Force from 1951 to October 1971. One of his legs of service included being stationed in Okinawa in the 824 Combat Support Group passing through Cam Ranh Bay and Saigon as a transport service.

    Charles Roney served in the Army from 1964 to 1970. He was assigned to the Advisory Team 51, Military Assistance Command located in Bar Lien, Vietnam.

    The next presentation is 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the Kuentz Recreation Center, 14401 W. R.H. Johnson Blvd.
