    American Legion Post 94 supports veterans program

    A recent meeting of American Legion Post 94 featured guests from nonprofit organizations that help supply services to veterans.

    This included David “Murf” Murphy, from Infinity Hospice, director of the We Honor Veterans Program, and Rick Kreiberg, founder and executive director of Veterans Affinity.

    Murphy addressed the various services provided by Infinity Hospice, one of which engages the help of veteran volunteers to support end-of-life care partners in meeting the unique needs of veterans and their families.

    Veteran volunteers assist in replacing such things as lost medals and obtaining the service members DD214s (Certificate of Discharge from Active Duty), which is a crucial document needed to receive VA benefits.

    Kreiberg, a retired 35 year Army command sergeant major, spoke about the unique roles of Veterans Affinity services. Its mission is to assist senior veterans get the care they need, and the benefits they have earned.

    “We assist senior veterans apply for VA healthcare benefits and make them aware of community resources available to them,” Kreiberg said.

    He urged veterans to not fall prey to these private “claims firms,” which often charge exorbitant fees for obtaining veteran documents, all of which can be receive at no charge, by contacting and using veteran organizations such as the American Legion or Veterans Affinity.

    Two other important Legion requirements accomplished during the meeting were the nominations for officers in the upcoming year and the election. The installation of the new officers will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, in the Quail Room of the Sun City West Foundation Building, 14465 R.H. Johnson Blvd.
