Residents at Solstice Senior Living at Sun City West, 18626 N. Spanish Garden Lane, worked on several Saturday mornings to put their creativity to work crafting items to sell during the July 20 sale.

The sale overtook the large common area and spilled over into both hallways for residents to browse and Solstice Vibrant Life Director Debby Brown said approximately 10 to 15 residents made crafts to sell.

Resident Rolanda Roetter sold jewelry she made and brought in $300, which she intends to use to make more of her uniquely crafted items. Prior to the event, Roetter said she has been taking part in some form of crafting her entire life, after learning from her mother.

“I really just like doing this and will keep doing it,” she added.

Brown said the 20 vendors on site said this year’s event was the best in terms of sales. Although Brown said the Solstice Senior Living booth did not do as well, she was happy to see Roetter did.

Residents are still working to afford a murder mystery part they can all take part in and the money just raised will be added to the pot.

Brown said several good ideas came from the sale and the next one is projected for November, where there will be options for schools using school colors and names.

Looking ahead, Brown said she is hoping to start a book club. A current resident knows an author who has written a series of books who will come in to discuss the writings and sign books for residents and those from the community who attend. The dates will be announced soon.
