SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. -- The Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced Tuesday it has paid off the mortgage of the home of fallen Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department Captain Cory Barr.

The Foundation said its "Tunnel To Towers Fallen First Responder Program" pays off the mortgages for the families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty, or pass away from 9/11-related illnesses, and leave behind young children.

The Foundation said a Sun Prairie gas explosion in 2018 killed Captain Barr as he was helping people evacuate, just a year after he was honored as Firefighter of the Year. Survived by his wife and twin daughters, Tunnel to Towers paid off the mortgage on his family's Sun Prairie home.

To support and learn about the Foundation's cause, visit T2T.org and consider donating $11 per month.
