Sunbury, Pa. — A man who allegedly strangled a woman in a Sunbury told police he "hugged her" after she ripped his PlayStation 5 out of the wall, according to court documents.

Christian Pereira-Muniz, 26, was taken into custody early the morning of July 6 after he grabbed a female in a rear chokehold and held onto her neck for five seconds, according to Riley Bremigen, officer for Sunbury Police Department.

Sunbury Police Department officers had been attempting to find a burglary suspect when they heard Pereira-Muniz and the woman arguing in the home, according to the affidavit.

When Pereira-Muniz opened the door, he saw the female standing there clutching her neck. The accuser was having trouble breathing and told police Pereira-Muniz had choked her.

Pereira-Muniz told police the woman had reached for a knife, so he placed her in a chokehold for a few seconds. Bremigen did not find a knife at the scene, according to the affidavit.

Pereira-Muniz was charged with felony strangulation, misdemeanors of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and summary harassment. He posted $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing at the office of District Judge Rachel Wiest-Benner is set for July 16.
