SUNBURY, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An investigation is underway after a bomb threat was made to a volunteer fire company in Sunbury.

Just before 8:00 a.m., the Sunbury Police Department was dispatched to Americus Hose Company for a bomb threat.

No explosives were found, and police have initiated a criminal investigation into the threat as well as the reason behind it.

Sunbury police were also made aware of a social media post by a Sunbury resident who served as a volunteer firefighter at Americus hose company. A second investigation was initiated into the post, and police are working with the Northumberland County District Attorney’s Office on that investigation.

“We don’t condone any type of violence at all. What comments were made on social media, or what’s happening, that’s not what the city represents, that’s not what the fire department represents, and that’s not what this area represents,” stated Mayor Josh Brosious, City of Sunbury.

Police are working to determine if the incidents are connected.
