EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) released its latest arsenic water sample tests on Monday, July 15, where all arsenic treatment facilities have passed federal testing, the utility said in a press release.

The CRRUA says the federal limit is 10 parts per billion (ppb) and has provided the arsenic test results for July which are the following:

    Sample Location
    Arsenic Treatment Facility (ATF)
Sample Result (ppb) Arsenic MCL 10 (ppb)
    Sunland Park 7.2 Below MCL
Santa Teresa Community 4.9 Below MCL
Santa Teresa Industrial Park 7.3 Below MCL
    Border Entry Excluded N/A
Test results were released by the Eurofins Environment Testing, a water testing lab certified by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED). Data provided by the CRRUA.

The utility says it excluded the Border Entry treatment facility from its monthly testing due to its continued meeting of all New Mexico Environment Department requirements.

The utility also says its latest arsenic test results follow a 100 percent decrease in the number of calls from customers for discolored water.

“Calls went from 28 in February when tracking began to zero in June, a decline of 100% in just five months,” the utility said.

The CRRUA has also provided data regarding the number of calls they received over the last five months due to discolored water. That data is the following:

Month Number of Calls Percent change from February
    February 2024 28 N/A
    March 2024 20 28.57%
    April 2024 07 75%
    May 2024 01 96.42%
    June 2024 0 100%
    Data provided by the CRRUA.

“These results represent factual evidence of the positive results CRRUA is achieving in its systematic efforts to continue providing safe water and reliable service to the residents of Sunland Park and Santa Teresa,” said CRRUA Executive Director Juan Crosby.

CRRUA provides water and wastewater service to residents and businesses in Sunland Park and Santa Teresa. The utility has been under fire in recent months over discolored water and water quality issues. Some residents have told KTSM the issues go back years.
