NMSU graduate student preserves history of Black Programs through archival project
Graduate student Lauretta King began her journey at New Mexico State University in spring 2022 by getting a job in the Black Programs office as an administrative assistant. Little did King know, her job would lead her to discover decades of stored historical documents and archive various documents that preserve decades of history of NMSU’s Black Programs, “Launching of a Legacy: Black Programs and Community.”
Seasonal Hours Announced for Outdoor Pools
Laabs Pool and the East Mesa Bataan Memorial Pool will begin seasonal operating hours the week of July 29, 2024. Beginning July 29 and continuing through Sept. 2, both outdoor pools operated by the City of Las Cruces’ Parks and Recreation Department, will be closed Monday through Thursday. They will be open Friday through Sunday with the following open-swim hours:
Burrell welcomes 207 med students
The bleachers in the gymnasium at Centennial High School were packed and the shouts and cheers, at times, were as loud as any you would hear at a rivalry game. But the jubilant ruckus on this night was not over basketball. The court was full of folding chairs and a stage where over 200 young people formally began med school last week.
NMSU awarded $6 million NSF grant to address climate change, aging energy infrastructure
New Mexico State University has received a four-year, $6 million grant from the National Science Foundation through the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, or EPSCoR. This funding was awarded to 14 projects worth $77.8 million to build research and development capacity and strengthen STEM education opportunities in often underfunded states.
Head Coach Tony Sanchez ready to meet expectations for NMSU football

Bilingual speech-language pathologist shares information on common conditions and passion for serving Spanish-speaking community
Dora Jasso is a bilingual speech-language pathologist and certified brain injury specialist at Memorial Medical Center. She explains some of the common conditions she treats and what symptoms people should be aware of as well as some treatment paths. Jasso says she acted as a translator for her Spanish-speaking parents as a child and that motivates her to serve the Spanish-speaking community. Kristen Martines Named Principal Of Barranca Elementary School
Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) has announced that Kristen Martines has been selected as the new Principal at Barranca Mesa Elementary School. Martines is a former Los Alamos Middle School Hawk and Los Alamos High School Hilltopper. She graduated from New Mexico State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in reading. She earned her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from New Mexico Highlands University and then earned her administrative license.
