Report: Queer Director Luca Guadagnino to Direct DC’s Sgt. Rock Movie

The revamped DC Universe , spearheaded by James Gunn , has reportedly roped in Luca Guadagnino to helm one of their upcoming movies. The rebooted franchise is scheduled to commence this year with the release of the Creature Commandos series. Meanwhile, things on the theatrical front will take flight in 2025 with the much-awaited premiere of Superman. According to recent reports, the ever-expanding DC Universe has added another movie to its slate, which will focus on the character of Sgt. Rock and will be helmed by Luca Guadagnino.

The said project also involves Justin Kuritzkes, who has been recruited to pen another script for Luca Guadagnino.

Rumors regarding a Sgt. Rock flick began to take shape in February 2024 after a similar update was released by DCU Leaks . Renowned movie critic Jeffrey Sneider recently added to the speculations by associating Luca Guadagnino with the DC project. The news was ultimately confirmed by Nexus Point News in an exclusive reveal.

As such, Guadagnino and Kuritzkes are scheduled to reunite for yet another film. So far, the duo has already collaborated on Challengers and the currently-unreleased Queer. Aside from their involvement, however, further details about the untitled DC project are being kept under wraps. More information regarding the movie is expected to follow in the coming days.

Who is DC’s Sgt. Franklin Rock?

Sgt. Franklin Rock, who will be the centrepiece of Luca Guadagnino’s unannounced movie, is a DC character created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert. Debuting on the comic-book pages in 1959, Rock is known for his heroics in World War II. The infantry non-commissioned officer is also famous for his exploits with a military group called Easy Company. He possesses exceptional combat skills alongside endurance that can rival several superheroes.

Multiple movie adaptations revolving around Sgt. Rock have been conceptualized in the past. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis were once touted to take up the soldier’s mantle, but nothing materialized. At the time of writing, it is unknown who will portray the iconic DC character in Guadagnino’s upcoming film.
