Firefighters from Surprise Fire and Medical Department were able to extricate an unresponsive 27-year-old male construction worker from the roof of a large warehouse on June 19.

The 911 call was made by coworkers who witnessed that patient collapse while applying roof coating materials to a large warehouse currently under construction in the area of 132nd and Peoria avenues.

Paramedics began treating the patient with cold IV fluids and cold packs for possible heat-related problems.

The patient was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The rescue was performed by L305 crew. They were able to make access to the roof by ascending the ladder as the only interior access was through a narrow shaft.

Firefighters loaded the patient into a rescue basket, which they then affixed the ladder bucket before lowering him to the ground to the awaiting ambulance.
