U.S. Southwest rallied for the final three runs of the game to edge Lower Sussex, 4-3, on the second day of the Senior League softball World Series on Tuesday night.

The host District III champions fall to 1-1 while U.S. Southwest, from Louisiana, is now 2-0 in the pool-play portion of the tournament being played in Roxana.

U.S. Southwest and U.S. Central, from Illinois, are the only squads to start the tourney with 2-0 records.

Lower Sussex plays again on Wednesday when it faces Latin America (Puerto Rico) at 8 p.m. It’s one of only three games on the schedule.

The Sussex County squad then doesn’t play again until Friday’s quarterfinals.

Latin America 20, MOT 6: The Delaware squad fell to 0-2 after the loss to the team from Puerto Rico on Tuesday night.

MOT won’t play again until Thursday when it faces U.S. Southwest (Louisiana) at 5:30 p.m.

Philippines unable to make tourney: Little League officials announced that the Asia-Pacific champion team from the Philippines was unable to make it to Lower Sussex due to the damage caused by Typhoon Gaemi.

Negros Occidental Little League (Bacolod City) was supposed to be part of Pool A but has been removed from the schedule. Pool A includes Lower Sussex and MOT as well as U.S. Southwest and Latin America.

“We are grateful for our volunteers and friends in the Philippines who have helped us navigate this situation,” the statement read.

California 6, MOT 5: The Delaware lost a tough decision in nine innings to host California District 57 in the Intermediate baseball World Series on Tuesday.

The loss leaves the U.S. East champions with a record of 0-2 and eliminates them from the tourney in Little League’s age division for 11-13 year olds.

The division is all called 50/70 since the pitcher’s mound is 50 feet from home plate while the bases are 70 feet apart.

The Middletown-area all-stars were out-scored by a total of only three runs in the two losses. That included a 6-4 setback to U.S. Southeast on Sunday.

MOT had gone 4-0 in winning the East Regional in Dover last week.
