    Victory League July 13-14

    Below are summaries of local Victory League games between July 13 and July 14, compiled by Nick Tabatt. July 13 was the day of the regular season.

    Swans beat Falcons in Play in game

    The Swanville Swans hosted the South/West Division Play-in game against the Flensburg Falcons Sunday, July 14. The Swans upset the Falcons 11-5.

    The Swans’ Levi Beseman was the winning pitcher, throwing eight strikeouts in seven innings. Travis Barthel and Troy Evans each threw one strikeout. Noah Urman went 2-4 at the plate, with two RBIs, two runs and one walk. Other Swans with RBIs include Barthel, Riley Johannes, Preston Pung and Nate Lambrecht.

    Russ Fellbraum led the Falcons at the plate, throwing four strikeouts in over six innings. Spencer Friese went 1-4 with a home run, a sac fly and three RBIs.

    Skis struggles against Avon

    Sobieski Skis had a tough loss against Avon Saturday, July 13, losing 14-7. The Skis’ Beau Thoma and Joey Hanowski each hit a home run at the plate. Matt Filipi 3-5, hitting a double and had an RBI. On the mound, Dusty Parker pitched three innings, throwing one strikeout and allowed two walks. Filippi pitched six innings with five strikeouts and four walks.

    Billygoats suffer first loss to Nisswa

    The Buckman lost their chances of finishing the season undefeated, losing to Nisswa 5-0. Rylan Robinson pitched seven innings, throwing five strikeouts. Lane Girtz lead the team at the plate, going 2-4. Those who earned a walk on the plate were Aaron Weber and Joe Kahl.

    Nisswa finished the game with 10 hits and three errors. The Billygoats had three hits and no errors. Despite the loss, the Billygoats will enter the North/East Division playoffs seeded number one.

    Bluejays dominate Falcons

    Upsala Bluejays traveled to play against the Flensburg Falcons, beating them 17-4 in seven innings. Charlie Kurowski pitched four innings on the mound, while Nick Frieler, Charlie Kurowski and Brady Burgraff each pitched one. Charlie and Nick through one strikeout. CJ Clear went 3-5 at the plate, having three RBIs and one run. Jack Primus also had three RBIs, along with earning two runs and hitting a double.

    The Falcons’ Spencer Freise went 2-2, hitting a double and a run. Ben Knopik had a sac fly, a walk and had two runs batted in. Friese also led the team at the plate, throwing six strikeouts.

    Swans lose to St. Stephen

    The Swanville Swans traveled to St. Stephen Saturday, July 13, being shut out 19-0 in seven innings. Zach Gapinski led the team, pitching two innings and throwing one strikeout. Travis Barthel, Tyler Smieja and Shane Lambrecht both went 1-3 at the plate, with Barthel hitting a double.

    Bulldogs end season against St. Mathias

    The Pierz Bulldogs traveled to St. Mathias where they just came up short 1-2. The Bulldogs struck first, with Link Toops scoring a run in the top of the third inning. Neither team scored until the bottom of the sixth inning after an RBI-hit from St. Mathias. The game went into the 10th inning, when St. Mathias scored its final run to secure the victory.

    Link Toops went 2-3 at the plate, with one run and one stolen base. Cooper Grasshorn went 2-3 with a sacrifice hit.

    With the loss to St. Mathais, the Bulldogs have been elimininated from the Victory League’s postseason.

    Cubs beat Freeport

    The Randall Cubs defeated Freeport on the road, beating them 4-2 in 10 innings. Zack Gwost pitched one inning, throwing two strikeouts and not allowing any hits or walks. Caleb Strack pitched nine innings, throwing 12 strikeouts and allowed two walks.

    One of the Cubs hard hitters, Travis Wenzel hit a double in the game, along with a walk and a run. Those with RBIs were Strack, Matt Otremba and Rick Drew.
