    Suspect in custody after ‘large fentanyl bust’ in Sweetwater

    MADISONVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — More than 800 pressed fentanyl pills, cash and other drugs were recovered by law enforcement in Sweetwater on Wednesday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. One suspect was taken into custody.

    Sheriff Tommy Jones shared in a social media post titled “Search Warrant Results in Large Fentanyl Bust” that on July 31, MCSO deputies and Sweetwater Police officers executed a search warrant at the Sweetwater Hotel in reference to the sale and delivery of fentanyl.

    Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid narcotic, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and it is about 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin as an analgesic.

    “Recovered from the search warrant was over 800 pressed fentanyl pills that carries a Monroe County street value of over $5500,” the post stated. “Also recovered was various other drugs, drug paraphernalia, and over $900 in currency.”

    One suspect, who was not identified in Sheriff Jones’ post was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Justice Center.
