Jeff Davis County Sheriff Preston Bohannon this week announced his intention to seek re-election in this year’s election. In making his announcement, the Sheriff said, “I would like to take this opportunity to let you the citizens of Hazlehurst, Denton and Jeff Davis County know I have officially qualified to seek re-election as your Sheriff of Jeff Davis County. I would like to thank each of you for your support and encouragement during the past 11 years as sheriff and I continue my pledge to you as in 2012 (when first elected) that my staff and I would work extremely hard to move Jeff Davis County forward in making our community a safer place to work, worship, raise our ramilies and give our children and grandchildren a safe educational environment and our teachers and school officials a safe place to work and teach. Thus far we have made significant progress and, yes, we have even better things in the making that will move us even further along. I especially want to thank all my staff, Chief Deputy, Office Administrators, Criminal and Drug Investigators, Deputies, Corrections Officers, 911 Operators, Bailiffs and Chaplain for putting forth all the hard work they have for me and you the people. For the past 22 years I’ve been blessed to serve this community one year as a police officer with the Hazlehurst Police Dept., 10 years as a Deputy Sheriff and the past 11 years as your Sheriff. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s a distinct honor and privilege that I never take for granted and I assure you I’ll continue serving you to the best of my ability. Also my door has always, and will always continue to be open so I can help you in any way possible. I look forward to continuing to serve you for the next four years. So I ask each of you please remember to exercise your constitutional right and vote, May 21 to allow me another 4-year term as your Sheriff. Last but not least, I would also like to ask each of you to keep my family, myself and my staff in your prayers in the days, months, and years forward. Thank you very much, I appreciate it. Sheriff Preston Bohannon”
