As the pass from Ankeny Centennial’s Chase Kluver sailed toward the right corner of the end zone, Sam Heither dove for the ball in an effort to make a spectacular catch. Heither somehow made the grab, which would have provided the tying points for the sixth-ranked Jaguars in the third overtime of Friday’s game against No. 1 Dowling Catholic. A DMACC student from Prairie City is among the 27 recipients in the 2024-25 class of Mark Pearson FFA Leadership Scholars. Trey Voeller is among 13 returning and 14 first-year DMACC students on a full-tuition scholarship during this current academic year thanks to the competitive scholarship program. Voeller is studying Biology, and was awarded this same scholarship last school year as well. According to DMACC, the Mark Pearson FFA Leadership Scholars Program is in its ninth year and has awarded more than $2 million in full-tuition scholarships. The scholarship recipients can enroll in any degree program at DMACC, and the scholarship will pay for the completion of their degree. After completing their first year at DMACC, Mark Pearson FFA Leadership scholars are eligible to maintain their scholarship for a second year. Program qualifications require scholarship recipients to be past presidents of their FFA chapter during either their junior or senior year of high school and commit to attending DMACC the fall following their high school graduation. The scholarship program was established in honor of ag broadcaster Mark Pearson, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 54. Pearson was the host of Iowa PBS’ “Market to Market” program for more than 20 years and was the host of WHO Radio’s “The Big Show.” He was also a Madison County farmer who served as an Assistant Secretary of the Iowa Department of Agriculture, and was the Markets Editor for Successful Farming Magazine.
