Iowa DOT Gets Rid of Majority of Cedar Rapids Traffic Cameras
The Iowa Department of Transportation issued a ruling on Monday that will turn off hundreds of traffic cameras across the state, including many here in Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the DOT issued its ruling on 348 camera permit requests from 28 Iowa municipalities. A new Iowa law requires cities to request permits to justify the use of automated traffic enforcement cameras. Under the guidelines in the new law approved by lawmakers and signed by Governor Kim Reynolds, the Gazette reports that the DOT approved just 11 cameras. There will now be fixed traffic cameras in only four Iowa cities; four each in Cedar Rapids and Davenport, and one each in Des Moines, Marshalltown, and Le Claire.
