Oak Harbor heads to state tourney wondering 'why not us?'
FINDLAY - Oak Harbor softball doesn't believe there's a pitcher out there it can't hit. A 12-2 run-rule victory over West Jefferson in a Division III regional final Friday did nothing to change the Rockets' minds. Oak Harbor played in a state semifinal two years ago. Liberty-Benton eliminated in Division III district final baseball loss to Coldwater
ELIDA, Ohio — Coldwater shortstop Baylen Blockberger fielded a grounder off the bat of Liberty-Benton’s Ashton Crawford and fired to first base. The throw pulled Troy Weigel off the bag, but he swung his glove around and tagged Crawford before he got to first. Eagles’ skipper Matt Rader was quick to question the out, one batter into the game, asking to consider the opinions of the rest of the umpire crew. The out stood as called. And, by the end of Saturday’s Division III district final at Ed Sandy Field, Coldwater had defeated Liberty-Benton, 12-3.
BGSU trio grateful to help establish winning culture within baseball program
BOWLING GREEN — The 2024 Bowling Green State University baseball season was significant in numerous ways to those who were involved with the program. For Rigo Ramos, Jack Krause, and Tyler Ross, it was perhaps a little more special. “There’s been a lot of ups and downs, mostly downs. But, with this year being the final year for me, Tyler Ross, Jack Krause, the three guys who were here back in 2020 when the program got cut, it just means a little bit more,” said Ramos, a 2019 Archbold High School graduate. “The day we clinched the [Mid-American Conference] championship at Eastern [Michigan], it was cool but it didn’t quite settle in until after the fact.
Liberty-Benton advances to baseball district final; Eastwood eliminated
ELIDA, Ohio — If Coldwater was a buzz saw, the Division III Elida District must be the whole sawmill. The baseball doubleheader semifinal saw four of the state’s top 14 teams faceoff, with No. 5 Coldwater knocking off No. 8 Eastwood, 7-3, in the opener at Ed Sandy Field. Liberty-Benton rallied to top Wayne Trace, 7-4, in the nightcap. The winners face each other Saturday for the district crown. Eastwood coach Kevin Leady said his team had its hands full with the Cavaliers (24-5).
