The Rice Lake Fortnightly Club's senior girl honoree at its April 23 meeting was Claire Kucko, daughter of Penny and Scott Kucko. New staff at Shell Lake Schools
SHELL LAKE — The Shell Lake School Board hired a number of staff members at their meeting Monday, April 15. Morgan Forrestal and Peggy Jones-Matz were hired as part-time food service employees for 2024-25. Julie Westlund, Eric Schenkenberg, Katie Zehm, Stan Lamb and Ashley Krause were hired as summer custodial crew. New principal at SHS
SPOONER — The Spooner Area School District School Board has selected Peter Schroeder to serve as the principal of Spooner High School, effective July 1. Schroeder currently serves as the middle school/high school principal in the Boscobel Area School District. Prior to becoming an administrator, he taught math, physics and chemistry, as well as having extensive experience coaching and serving as an athletic official. Schroeder is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a field artillery officer. District Administrator Dr. David Aslyn commented, “We are pleased to have Peter Schroeder leading Spooner High School for the upcoming school year. He is a talented educator with solid leadership skills. His commitment to building relationships and working collaboratively really impressed the students, parents, teachers, board members and administrators involved in interviews. I’m confident that he will do well serving the students, families and staff of the Spooner High School. We are fortunate to have a person of Peter’s caliber joining the SASD leadership team.”
Officers retain their roles on Board of Education
At its meeting Monday, the Rice Lake Board of Education officers were all re-elected to their positions of leadership with Keven Jensen as president, Steve Bowman as vice president, Miriam Vavra as clerk and Doug Kucko as treasurer. Seniors build raised garden beds, clean kennels and more on Community Service Day
Rice Lake High School held its annual Community Service Day for seniors on April 17. Because it was a rainy day, most activities were done indoors, such as connecting with students in the younger grades and helping out at the Humane Society of Barron County’s animal shelter. Rice Lake High School senior Eliana Sheplee was one of 32 student-athletes statewide named Scholar Athletes by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. To determine the top award recipients, four boys and four girls were selected based on both athletic and academic achievement from each of the four WIAA divisions. Rustic Romance was theme of Rice Lake High School's Junior Prom
Rice Lake High School held its junior prom, with the theme Rustic Romance, on Saturday evening at Turtleback Golf and Dining Center of Rice Lake. Reigning over the formal event were Queen Julia Holthaus and King Pierce Hastreiter. A post prom party featured activities such as The Eliminator, axe throwing, sumo wrestling, human bowling, poker, black jack, spikeball, bean bags, photo booth and cash vault. Prizes included a mini fridge, trail camera, volleyball set and gift cards. Junior class advisors, who oversaw the event, were Kristin Korbel and Roger Britton.
