A Des Moines man charged with trying to light his girlfriend on fire has been sentenced to probation. Pah Lo Baw, 36, was arrested in March after police said he poured gasoline inside his home and on his girlfriend and lit it on fire, causing minor damage to the house and singeing his own hair. DMPD arrest woman in 2023 homicide case
A woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of her mother, the Des Moines Police Department said Thursday. A DMPD investigation revealed that 70-year-old Nancy Glaza was "extremely dependent" on her daughter, 42-year-old Angela Gerdes for assistance with basic tasks and access to medical care. Poor living conditions in her residence only amplified her dependence as the home even lacked running water since 2021, police said.
Drake Public Safety: Student nearly abducted on west side of campus, expanded police presence Friday
DES MOINES, Iowa — A Drake University student was the subject of an attempted abduction on the west edge of campus, according to a campus wide email sent out on Thursday. Drake Public Safety has been able to establish the timeline of the events and presence of an involved vehicle using campus video footage, but it has reportedly not been able to identify the vehicle's make, model or license plate number.
