CULLMAN, Ala. – The sweet smell of candied apples and cotton candy float in the air as the shrill ringing of shrieks and shouts echo through the Cullman County Fairgrounds. The fair is back, running until Oct. 12. CULLMAN, Ala. – On Thursday, Oct. 3, crowds began lining up at the gates as early as 3:30 p.m. before Cullman County Fair Association President Charlie Chambers welcomed attendees to the 70th annual Cullman County Fair sponsored by the Cullman Lions Club. Paige Clabo opened the ceremony with the national anthem while the Cullman Fire Rescue Honor Guard hoisted the nation’s flag. Good Hope City Council awards bid for sewer line project
GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Good Hope’s City Council held its first October meeting at Good Hope City Hall Monday night and approved a Resolution to award a bid for its sewer line project. The City is replacing its 3” sewer line with a 6” line that will run from the City’s pump station and connect to the waste water treatment plant. After evaluating the bids received, the City determined that Dark Horse Construction was the low bidder and authorized Mayor Jerry Bartlett to enter into a contract with the company to complete the project. Resolution No: 022-204 “WHEREAS, the City of Good Hope has received a Community Development BlockGrant to implement a sewer improvements project to assist a new business and help create jobs for predominately low and moderate income persons; and THEREFORE, in accordance with the grant regulations, the City of Good Hope has solicited and received bids from qualified companies to complete the improvements in accordance with the approved plans and specifications; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City of Good Hope has evaluated the bids received and has determined that Dark Horse Construction LLC is the low bidder; and THAT, the City of Good Hope has authorized Mayor Jerry Bartlett, to enter into a contract with Dark Horse Construction LLC in the amount of $660,602.00 to complete all construction activities associated with the above referenced project; and THAT, the City of Good Hope commits to provide all local cash matching funds for the sewer improvements which is currently estimated to be $270,066.00.” Good Hope’s Sizzlin’ Seniors will meet tomorrow, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. for bingo and food. Wallace State receives $1.8 M in grants for Workforce Development
HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Wallace State Community College recently announced that it has received almost $1.8 million in grants from the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) for Workforce Development. The bulk of the funds, $1.1 million, was awarded to continue to provide career technical dual enrollment scholarships for area juniors and seniors. These scholarships allow high school students to concurrently earn high school and college credits while training for in-demand careers in several technical and health science programs at the college.
