The renaissance faire is coming back to Shasta County Memorial Day weekend. Golden Goblet’s Production Company, who puts on the faire says they’re adding more events and almost doubling the number of live actors on the grounds. New experiences include camel rides, a pirate ship with an authentic buccaneer boot camp, and a new Shakespearean acting troupe.

Redding Regional Airport one step closer to Denver non-stop. The Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously at their meeting on Tuesday to give the city of Redding $100,000 toward a $2 million revenue guarantee for United Airlines to begin service to Denver.

REDDING, Calif. — The city of Redding has gained some more support for a potential direct flight from the Redding Regional Airport to Denver. At the May 21 Shasta County Board of Supervisors meeting, the board voted to contribute $100,000 to the city of Redding, going toward the flight.

Sacramento River - Lower - Redding, CA (Shasta County) The 2024 Sacramento River Striped bass season has been phenominal! We fished around 70 Striper trips this season and every trip ended with full limits for our guests. The size of the Striped bass was above average this year as well making for one of the most memorable seasons in years. We still have one boat working in the Colusa area but our last available dates are May 22nd and 23rd. With milder daytime temps coming this next week those dates should be very comfortable on the water and the fishing will continue to be great! Shasta Lake - Shasta Lake, CA (Shasta County) Shasta Lake had a great winter season and I'm happy to report that we have a near full lake and conditions couldn't be better! Currently the lake level is less than 6' feet from full and water surface temps are on the rise. Yesterdays trip ended with surface temps pushing 73 degrees. 53 degree water is at the 55' foot level and many of the trout and salmon we're catching are being caught at that level. We're still getting bites up in the 15'-20' level as well but that will change weekly as we push into the summer months. We are primarily catching rainbow and brown trout but we are also seeing both King and Kokanee salmon in the mix as well. Last years salmon bite was terrible so its refreshing to see a good bite so far this season. We caught an 8 Lb King salmon this past winter so we know there are some bigger Kings in the lake but we are seeing a lot of 2-3 lb salmon this spring. The rainbow populations are healthy and with robust plants of brown trout the past several years, there are a lot of browns being caught on Shasta as well. We are watching the lake set up nicely and it should be lights out fishing as June arrives. June thru September is a great time to fish Shasta Lake and we'll be booking trips daily from now into early October. Sacramento River - Lower - Redding, CA (Shasta County) The great Striper bite continues this week on the Sacramento River. Its been a great season with limits of Striped bass caught by every client group we've fished so far this month. The minnow bite has been great but trolling plugs and throwing paddle tails with spin gear has its days as well. This is the best Striper season I've fished in recent years withoit a doubt. We have 3-4 weeks remaining in our season in the Colusa area and we have a few remaining dates that still remain to be filled.
