Softball: McCaffery grand slam propels Pumas to sectionals
Kassidy McCaffery made sure the Poynette softball team would move on in postseason play. Not only did she go the distance in the pitcher’s circle, blanking Marshall in a 4-0 regional final victory on Thursday, McCaffery also blasted a grand slam to account for all the scoring. Allowing only three hits and one walk, McCaffery led the Pumas, who avenged last season’s postseason loss that ended their 2023 season. Now 17-7 overall, Poynette is headed to sectionals, where they will travel to Brodhead on Tuesday, May 28.

Sophie Leitzen led off the game with a home run for Brodhead, and the...
