Dorchester Garden Club awards scholarships to two Dorchester County Students
The Dorchester Garden Club presented college scholarship awards to two high school graduates from Dorchester County at a ceremony at Dorchester Career and Technology Center on May 20. This year’s recipients were Myra Lehn of Cambridge South Dorchester High School, who will be studying to become a dermatologist at Towson University and Peter Lescomb of North Dorchester High School who will be studying meteorology at Salisbury University. This year’s Dorchester Garden Club scholarship committee included club members Billie Norton, Patti Hopkins, Becky Wozny and Julie Bryan. “Both Myra and Peter have had outstanding academic achievements and are well deserving of these scholarships as they continue on in their studies,” noted Committee Chair Billie Norton.
Escape the Vape Youth Summit held at Chesapeake College
WYE MILLS — On a rainy Saturday, approximately 35 students from area schools gathered at Chesapeake College for an event called Escape the Vape, a youth summit. Dorchester BOE passes emergency virtual education plan with amendment
CAMBRIDGE — A drafted prolonged state of emergency virtual education plan, now required by the state through a Maryland Senate bill, brought discussion among the Dorchester County Board of Education at a board meeting Thursday. Teams from Easton Middle School were recognized at the Maryland Council on Economic Education’s annual awards ceremony for winning state and regional Stock Market Game championship competitions this school year. In the Stock Market Game, student teams create and manage a simulated, virtual investment portfolio starting with $100,000. HURLOCK — The Hurlock Lions Club recently presented North Dorchester High School seniors Ava Gomez and Harvey Williamson with the Hurlock Lions Club Bill Brown Memorial Scholarships valued at $2000 each. Both Ava and Harvey have strong records of service. Erik Moseley, a second-year student at Salisbury University, recently completed an internship with the Talbot County Department of Planning and Zoning. As an Urban and Regional Planning major, Moseley gained 135 hours of practical experience through the Gerald A. Elkins Internship Award. This award represents a partnership between Salisbury University’s Urban and Regional Planning Program, the Salisbury University Foundation, and Talbot County’s Planning and Zoning Department.
