EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, MO – Longtime Excelsior Springs Deputy Fire Chief Scott O’Dell hung up his helmet Friday after a distinguished 37-year career with the department. O’Dell was honored at a retirement party on May 24th, surrounded by dozens of friends, family, and current and former colleagues. Fire Chief Joe Maddick praised O’Dell’s dedication, stating that he’d done every job at the Fire Department, from mundane everyday tasks to the most heroic and heart-wrenching duties.
Intoxicating Hemp Faces Crackdown in Excelsior Springs and Beyond
In Excelsior Springs, concerns are mounting over the sale of intoxicating hemp products. The issue came to light during the April meeting of the city’s Substance Abuse-Free Environments (SAFE) coalition, where members were shown packaging resembling gummy candy and received an explanation of the products’ intoxicating effects. These concerns have reached the City Council, which is exploring ways to protect citizens, particularly children, from these products.

Excelsior Springs, MO–On Monday, May 20, 2024, A proposal to rezone property at 1112 Tracy Avenue that would have potentially allowed the construction of a new community living facility for individuals experiencing homelessness in Excelsior Springs was quietly rejected by the City Council. The project, organized by Eden Village of Excelsior Springs, required the rezoning the vacant property from a “C-3” commercial designation to a medium-density “R-4” residential designation.
Minnesota and Wisconsin Events Level Up with $25K Windfall
Two events, one in Minnesota and one in Wisconsin, are getting a chance to take things to the next level with a $25,000 prize. Cenex gas stations had a contest called the "Hometown Throwdown", over 500 events were submitted through social media and competed for the $100,000 grand prize and two $25,000 prizes.

In a separate vote, the council approved an amendment to the city’s sign regulations, looking to streamline enforcement and better serve both residents and businesses. However, a proposal to rezone property for Eden Village, a new low-income housing community for the homeless, failed to gain approval.
