Three local airports chosen for Kansas Airport Improvement Program funding
(KOAM) - Governor Laura Kelly has announced the selection of 58 projects at 37 airports to receive a total of $14.3 million through the Kansas Airport Improvement Program (KAIP). Among the recipients are two local airports, one in Pittsburg and the other in Chanute.
Local Entertainment: Chanute to Host Kathy Kaefer's Award-Winning WWII Tribute Show
The Chanute Entertainment Series will present Kathy Kaefer's award-winning show, 'Kiss Me Once: Stories from the Homefront' on March 9 at 7 p.m. at the Chanute Memorial Auditorium. The show pays tribute to the people of the World War II era and includes songs from that time.
Erie City Public Library Receives 100 New Children's Books from Brownstone Book Fund
The Erie City Public Library is proud to announce that it received a gift of 100 new children’s books, ranging from pre-kindergarten through early readers. These books were a donation from the Brownstone Book Fund, a private foundation in New York City interested in fostering early reading, a love of books and encouraging parents and children to read together.Visit here for more details.
Former JCPenney Location on S. Santa Fe to House New Bealls Store this Spring
People soon will be able to shop at a new retailer, bealls, in Chanute as the store plans to open in late spring. The new bealls store will open at 1425 S. Santa Fe, which was the former location of JCPenney. The building space is 14,400 sq. ft.Visit here for more details.
Local Art Gallery Showcases 'Pets in Art' Exhibit Until March
The Chanute Art Gallery is currently hosting the 'Pets in Art' exhibit until March. This exhibit highlights the bond between humans and their pets, as depicted by various artists. Contributors include Robin Oldham and Gay O’Rourke. Oldham's pieces are light-hearted portrayals of her dogs. O’Rourke's work, 'Smoothing Joe,' illustrates a girl's affection for her pony. Expanded Second Floor Exhibit Space Now Open at Local Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum
I’m delighted to write that expansion of the museum’s second floor exhibit space is now complete and it looks great. All are welcome to enjoy this new area curated by Jacque Borgeson Zimmer. It is divided into three sections. “Queen of the Mountain: Lizzie Le Blond” features the pictures and story of this famed Victorian era filmmaker, photographer, author, and mountaineer from Ireland.Visit here for more details.
