30 Arrested in Newport County DUI Crackdown Over Labor Day Weekend
A multi-agency effort to keep Newport County roads safe over Labor Day weekend resulted in 30 DUI arrests, law enforcement officials said Tuesday. Officers from Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Jamestown, Tiverton, Little Compton, and the Rhode Island State Police joined forces to target impaired drivers from Friday, August 30, through Monday, September 2. The DUI Task Force, backed by the Rhode Island Office on Highway Safety and the Police Chiefs Association, focused on reducing the number of drunk or drugged drivers on the road.
RI high court lets murder conviction stand in shooting of East Providence barber
PROVIDENCE β The state Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a 42-year-old man in the 2014 shooting death of East Providence barber Yusef AβVant. The high court last week let stand Thomas Mosleyβs second-degree murder conviction and a sentence of consecutive life terms, plus 15 years, for fatally shooting AβVant, a popular barber and mentor to local youth, in his Krazy Kuts shop on Aug. 13, 2014. ...
