Thunderstorm chances, fire start risk for Labor Day
Today: A round of showers is possible for this morning. However, after lunchtime, our attention will turn to the more substantial round of showers and thunderstorms for this afternoon and evening. Chances will reignite around 4 o’clock in Kittitas and Yakima counties, spreading east into the evening. The fire start potential will be up there today given our vegetation dryness is generally in the 80th - 90th percentiles (compared to historical values). Skies will already be a bit hazy due to fires burning adjacent to our area. Otherwise, today will be a hot one with highs about 5-10 degrees above average for early September. It’ll be in the low to mid-90s across the map. Winds will gust between 20-30 MPH for the Kittitas Valley, Lower Columbia Basin, and Blue Foothills.

Four seafarers from South America were working in Washington on the Wycliffe, a tugboat that Nelson Armas owns.
