SIDNEY — The Shelby County grand jury issued indictments for felonious assault, domestic violence, falsification and drugs, among other charges, on Thursday. Sonya K. Smith, 60, of Piqua, was indicted on one count felonious assault, a second degree felony, for attempting to stab an adult male victim with a knife.

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima City Schools will accept a grant to assist with the purchase of 4 electric school buses. The district was selected to receive a $1.4 million EPA Clean School Bus Grant to cover the little over $1.7 million total price tag. In addition to the 4 new electric school buses, the purchase will come with the needed electrical infrastructure and charging stations. District administrators say this is a step toward going greener while also being economically savvy.

LIMA — Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith said she would direct the city engineer to request proposals for traffic calming at Monday night’s Council of the Whole meeting. LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - A Lima City councilman is looking to teach kids about money responsibility during his annual Halloween party. On October 27th at Hover Park, Derry Glenn will be hosting his annual event. There will be candy for the kids and hot dogs for people that come out. But besides the candy, Derry Glenn will be giving out saving bonds to a few of the kids for best costume or best GPA on their last report card. Glenn says he wants to add a teachable moment during his events, and the savings bonds help the kids learn fiscal responsibility.

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Jegna Corporation continues work to revitalize a residential house on Lima's south end into a community resource. Part of the Ujima House Project, the property located at 1307 St. Johns Avenue is currently being transformed into the MBK Community Outreach House for several different programs. A garden will also be constructed where fresh fruits and vegetables will be grown. Leaders with the project say this opportunity will help give residents a place to grow and build new skills.

Friday night the Continental/Miller City Varsity Volleyball game started with the Continental American Legion Post 541 presenting a $1000 check to help support the Volley for a Cure effort. A large crowd was on hand to support both the visiting Pirates and Wildcats in this Putnam County League battle. Miller City entered the game tied for first place in the PCL and ranked #8 in the latest MAXPrep ranking. The Wildcats showed the ranking to be true as they put the first 7 points on the board in game 1. The Wildcats ran away with game closing with a 25-10 final. The second game was much closer. The Pirates put up the first point on the board that was followed by 4 from the Wildcats. The Pirates made it a 1 point game at 7-8 behind the serving of Brynlee McDougle and Macie Clemens. It remained a 1 point game till 10-9 when the Wildcats went on a 5 point run to take control of game 2, 15-9. Wildcats took game 2, 25-14. Game 3 saw the Wildcats put up the first 11 points on the way to a 25-10 game 3 win. Wildcats 3-0 match winner.

LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - The Lima Senior Choral Music Department continues a long tradition of singing sacred music for sacred spaces. This year, the voices of the Spartan Singers, Spartanaires, and Masterworks choirs filled the space of St. Rose Catholic Church with works like Ave Maria and a spiritual from African American composer William Dawson, along with various other hymns and gospels. The choirs are happy that Lima churches open their doors to let them perform sacred music.

ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Crossroads Crisis Center honors the victims of domestic violence during their 25th annual tree planting. The tree was planted at the Moyer Nature Center in the nature preserve at Bluffton University, which is the first tree planting that has happened outside of the Lima area. The tree symbolizes the lives that continue to grow after domestic violence, and it is planted in memory of victims that died and in honor of survivors of abusive relationships.
