New library on wheels starts rolling across Wood County
BOWLING GREEN — As Lauren Canaday Johnson steered the new Wood County District Public Library bookmobile into the parking lot of a senior apartment complex this week, she didn’t realize she would change a life. A woman in her 60s with mobility issues, who is unable to get to the brick-and-mortar library, boarded the bookmobile, using the ramp. She checked out 32 books, said Ms. Johnson, who is the bookmobile and outreach supervisor. “She said it was like Christmas for her,” Ms. Johnson said. The bookmobile regularly stops at schools, daycares, senior living areas, apartment complexes, and tiny villages in Wood County, such as Tontogany and Rudolph. It covers places that aren’t near the Bowling Green or Walbridge branch libraries, and reaches people who can’t get to them, said Ken Frisch, library board president.
