Gulf Shores Council Praises Smooth Hangout Fest Operations. Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – At the regularly scheduled Gulf Shores City Council meeting, key topics concerning the Hangout Music Festival were discussed. A number of city officials, including City Manager Grant Brown, Fire Chief Mark Sealy, Police Chief Edward Delmore, and Mayor Robert Craft, approached the podium to deliver reports in their respective areas of expertise.
$5M FEMA grant will help Foley build a hurricane safe room
With the help of a federal grant, Foley is in the beginning stages of constructing a safe room downtown that’s estimated to cost over $5.5 million. A “safe room” is a facility specifically designed to meet Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) criteria and “provide near-absolute protection in extreme wind events, including tornadoes and hurricanes,” according to the agency’s website.

A local education committee installed 20 new historic building plaques to teach visitors more about significant places in Fairhope history. The Fairhope Single Tax Corporation (FSTC), which began as an organization of single-taxers who founded Fairhope in the late 1800s and today serves as a non-profit in the community, put together a map of buildings with historic value designed to be a walking tour.
