DILLON COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Between 30 to 35 single-family homes are to be built on 30 acres in the area of Gary Road in the Oak Grove community just outside of Latta, according to Dillon County Councilman T.F. "Buzzy" Finklea. The homes will cost between $170,000 to $214,000.

Dillon County District Four Councilman T.F. “Buzzy” Finklea announces that a new housing development is coming to the Oak Grove area. The development will be located on three tracts of land amounting to roughly 30 acres of property on Gary Road. Phase One will consist of approximately 30-35 houses to be built. The single family homes will be built on about three-fourths of an acre and the houses will have a value of approximately $170,000 to $214,000 per house. There will be covenants to protect the investment of the homeowners such as no mobile homes on the same property. There is also a house on one acre of land that is being sold.

The Lumbee Tribe in Pembroke, NC, will see an increase in their housing budget for the next fiscal year. Tribal Chairman John L. Lowery announced that the budget for the Lumbee Tribe Housing Program will grow by nearly $10 million, from $18.3 million to $28.7 million. This rise is part of a nationwide increase in funding for tribes under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act of 1996.

In the March monthly report, Lumbee Tribal Chairman John L. Lowery provided updates to the Lumbee community. The report highlighted a visit from Richard Monocchio, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Monocchio toured housing developments in Raynham, the Pembroke Boys & Girls Club, and a new home in Arrowpoint Subdivision, showcasing the tribe's efforts in housing.

Pembroke, NC (May 9, 2024) - Lumbee Tribal Chairman John L. Lowery is excited to announce an increase in funds for the Lumbee Tribe Housing Program. Tribes across the nation received notification on May 7, 2024 from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development about their Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) Allocations for Fiscal year 25. The Lumbee Tribe will receive an additional 10 million dollars next program year, going from $18.3 million last year to $28.7 million next year. Tribes across the nation will receive increased funding as a result of Congress increasing appropriations to NAHASDA Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act of 1996. This is the largest increase in (IHBG) funding since the program was created. “This funding will allow us to build additional homes for homeownership, elderly sites and help with Down Payment Assistance,” said Lowery. “I am honored to be in this position, during this season of progress and prosperity for the Lumbee People.”
