North Carolina's Poet Laureate Jacki Shelton Green to Share Poetry at Rockingham Community College
Jacki Shelton Green, North Carolina's poet laureate, will visit Rockingham Community College on Tuesday, April 9 at 1 p.m. She will share her poetry and discuss her writing process. The event will be held in the Gerald James Library. Green became the first African-American and third woman to be appointed as the poet laureate in 2018 by Governor Roy Cooper. She was reappointed in 2021.
Richmond County won’t renew animal shelter contract with K2
ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Animal Shelter will no longer be run by K2 Solutions by the end of the fiscal year. A joint statement from the county dated March 20 states that the two parties “have mutually agreed to complete the current contract” for management of the shelter “without renewal.” The contract ends June 30.
