Sparta Boys Lax Moves Past Morris Hills in NJSIAA North, Group 2 Tournament
SPARTA, NJ – The number 2 seed Sparta boys lacrosse squad defeated 15 seed Morris Hills 11-7 on Wednesday in the first round of the NJSIAA North, Group 2 tournament. Eddie Brown, Hunter Takacs and Matt Ciarelli each netted three. Marco Aquino and Michael Pandiscia each added one. Brown and Takacs earned three assists. Greg Peters had two assists. Novellino leads Medford Tech to NJTAC Groups 1/2 crown - Softball recap
Behind a complete-game performance by freshman Everen Novellino, five-seed Medford Tech recorded a 4-1 victory over two-seed Sussex Tech to win the NJTAC Groups 1/2 championship in Sparta. Novellino allowed one run on three hits and three walks with 11 strikeouts to help the Jaguars win the title.

Nolan Sabel had a goal and four assists as Seton Hall Prep, No. 5 in the NJ.com Top 20, defeated Gill St. Bernard’s, 12-5, in Gladstone. Tyler Juhlin scored three first half goals, the third putting Seton Hall Prep (13-6) in front for good at 4-3 with 7:42 left in the second quarter. Joe DelMauro also scored three goals, while Charlie Killen had two with an assist. Finn McNany chipped in a goal with an assist. Adam Angel made eight saves before giving way to Conor Keenan, who had 10.

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The earlier than usual 2 p.m. school day start didn't slow down the Raider bats, as they opened the 2024 NJSIAA State Sectional tournament against Franklin. Scotch Plains-Fanwood jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning. Jaden Carpien had an RBI single to plate Jack Sponheimer and then Ryan Quinones had an RBI double bringing Carpien around to score. MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Morristown softball team fell to Whippany Park on Monday 13-5. SUCCASUNNA, NJ -- Chatham senior Caroline Himstreet didn't sweat the heat on Tuesday afternoon, setting a meet record in the 1600 with a time of 5:09.91 at the Roxbury Invitational track & field event. Himstreet broke the meet mark that had stood since 2011. Chatham sophomore Sarah Nacinovich turned in two second-place finishes, running the 100-meter dash in 12.91 and the 200 in 25.88. Verona Softball Tosses No-Hitter In Opening Round of NJSIAA Tournament
VERONA, NJ - Verona Varsity Softball brought their best stuff to the mound on Wednesday, blanking Secaucus 14-0 in the opening round of the NJSIAA Tournament. Synclaire Szamborski and Sienna Armani combined for ten strikeouts and threw a combined no-hitter for the Hillbillies. Armani was credited with the win on the mound. Prince Rogers, a Freed Slave, Memorialized with Plaque at Ballpark Bearing his Name
BRIDGEWATER, NJ – As part of the Somerset Patriots initiative to highlight Black members of the community through the New York Black Yankees program, the team partnered with the Prince Rodgers Foundation and Bridgewater Township for a dedication ceremony on Thursday, May 23 to honor the life of Prince Rodgers. The event took place at the Prince Rodgers Baseball Complex and Park that bears Rodgers’ name and invited descendants, dignitaries and the community joined together for a ceremony highlighted by the unveiling of a monument that includes information about Rodgers and his story. Big Turnout for Sparta Recreation's 2024 Trout Derby
SPARTA, NJ – Young and aspiring anglers turned out to the pond at Station Park for the 2024 trout derby. The Sparta Recreation Department’s event was supported by the Sparta Municipal Alliance this year. Approximately 75 children tried to snag one of the 60 trout that were stocked in the pond. The Municipal Alliance’s donation was used to purchase trout from the Musky Trout Hatchery that stocked the pond.
