Umpire waves off tying home run, ends NJ high school baseball game in controversy
A New Jersey high school baseball has one team up in arms after a controversial call ended a state tournament game between Northern Highlands and Mount Olive on Wednesday. What appeared to be a game-tying three-run home run for Northern Highlands in the top of the seventh was waved off after Mount Olive appealed to the home plate umpire, who ruled the first runner didn’t touch the plate and called him out, NJ.com reported. Don’t worry, beach happy! City beaches were short on lifeguards but long on fun in the sun as swimming season officially kicked off Saturday in the Big Apple. Luna Park reopened for the season this past March, but its new ride, Electric Eden Raceway, will be debuting this Friday, May 24 at Coney Island. Electric Eden Raceway is New York’s first-ever electric-powered go-kart ride, named after Luna Park’s original name, Electric Eden.
