Fan Vote: Gadsden Times area Softball Player of the Year with 60 nominees
The Alabama high school softball season is over and with that its time to vote for who was the best of the best. Through noon June 3, you can vote for your choice for the fan vote softball player of the year. There are 60 nominations. coming from all area nominations and other sources. They represent 17 schools including all nine Etowah County programs.
AHSAA realignment: What Westbrook, Southside and other changes mean for Gadsden area teams
The AHSAA released the new areas and classifications for spring sports and with six sports announced on Thursday, there's a lot to break down about how the new areas affect Gadsden area teams. Former Georgia defensive back announces transfer destination
After entering the transfer portal at the beginning of the month, a former Georgia Bulldogs safety has joined a new team. Patrick Taylor announced via his X account that he has joined the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. Taylor joined the Bulldogs as a preferred walk-on in 2020. He is listed at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, and has experience playing at both safety and cornerback. He played high school football at Johns Creek in Alpharetta, Georgia, where he was an all-region and all-state cornerback. Taylor saw the field in three games in 2023 for UGA, getting three tackles in the process. Taylor also had offers from Troy and Austin Peay. In joining the Gamecocks, he joins a team entering its second year in the Football Bowl Subdivision and coming off a nine-win season in 2023. The head coach is Rich Rodriguez, a long-time Power Five level coach at Michigan, West Virginia and Arizona. There were plenty of memorable moments from the 2023-24 Gadsden area high school season but a few will standout as the year has wrapped. Every team set out to bring home state titles and to bring a Blue Map Trophy back to leave their legacy but only a few did. In Etowah County, Southside girls bowling and Westbrook Christian boys golf were the only two to win. Elsewhere in the area Fyffe football, Spring Garden volleyball and girls basketball and Plainview volleyball brought home trophies.

Which Gadsden area standouts were selected for AHSAA All-star baseball, softball, soccer teams
A couple of Gadsden area standout athletes have been selected to play in the AHSAA all-star games for baseball, softball and soccer this summer. The AHSAA announced the all-star rosters on Monday and the games will be held from July 15-19 in Montgomery. The area is primed to be well-represented with a few athletes in basketball and fall sports also competing. Spring Garden's Ace Austin is on the roster for both the volleyball and basketball games.
