No. 1 Alexandria rallies to sweep Mobile Christian, claim Class 5A state baseball title
Alexandria coach Zac Welch wasn’t in the dugout when his team won its first state baseball title Tuesday evening. But it didn’t take him long to get to the dogpile. Welch was ejected with his team trailing Mobile Christian 3-1 in the third inning, but the top-ranked Valley Cubs rallied for an 8-4 victory in Game 2 at Jim Case Stadium in Jacksonville to sweep the Class 5A championship series.

Jacksonville State beefed up its ground game on Friday, getting a transfer commitment from former Georgia running back Andrew Paul. Paul (5-foot-11, 218 pounds) totaled 129 yards and a touchdown in seven games for the Bulldogs in 2023. He redshirted as a true freshman, leaving him with three years of eligibility remaining.

Plainview softball knocks Piedmont out of state tournament, advances to Fridays slate
OXFORD — Just like a week ago, Plainview softball took down Piedmont to advance. The Bears earned the 7-2 win over the Bulldogs. It wasn't full déjà vu, as this time it was to advance in the elimination bracket at the AHSAA Class 3A state softball tournament. The Bears will play again at 10:45 a.m. Friday on Field Two at Choccolocco Park.
