CCPS Kindergarteners perform ‘Lemonade!’
CULLMAN, Ala. – Kindergartners at Cullman City Primary School on Tuesday, May 21, presented “Lemonade!” a 20-minute musical for friends and family to mark the end of a notable year. The early learners had the chance to try out their practiced stage presence and perform the classic “Lemonade!” in the school’s newly constructed gymnasium. 8 Cullman County seniors participate in North Alabama Academy of Craft Training signing day
CULLMAN, Ala. – Eight seniors from Cullman County accepted positions with various companies at the inaugural North Alabama Academy of Craft Training (ACT) signing day recently. “Join me in celebrating them for their decision to earn a skill and enter the workforce after high school graduation,” said ACT Education Director Haynes Riddle. CCBOE: 99.3% of third graders reading at or above grade level
CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Board of Education (CCBOE) at its monthly meeting Monday, May 20, heard a very positive update from Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette regarding the systems’ third graders. This school year is the first for the retention portion of the Alabama Literacy Act, which was passed in 2019. Essentially, third graders not reading at grade level by this August could be held back. CCBOE recognizes student achievements
CULLMAN, Ala. – Prior to the Cullman County Board of Education (CCBOE) monthly meeting, Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette recognized multiple student-athletes and scholars for their recent achievements. Allison Rice and Kallaway McKinnon from Cold Springs and Trey Thompson and Tyce Thompson from West Point were winners of the Elk’s Hoop Shoot competition, as well as participants in Southeast Regional competitions. Each finished in the top 12 of his or her age division. Rice placed 12th in the nation in the 8-9 girls division. Trey Thompson placed fifth in the nation for the 10-11boys’ division. Wallace State Nursing holds 1st of 2 pinning ceremonies for Class of 2024
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State Community College’s Department of Nursing Education recognized more than 75 graduates at the first of two pinning ceremonies for the class of 2024. Both the May and August ceremonies celebrate new nurses graduating from the program that has twice been designated as a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing. 2 CHS Career Tech Education students honored
CULLMAN, Ala. – Two Career Tech students from Cullman High School’s Educators in Training program, Anna Hill and Maddie Doyle, received first place at the Future Teachers of Alabama State Conference for their submission to the “Grow Your Own” Video Lesson Competition. The pair won against more than 50 submissions throughout the state. The competition involved the Cullman High School students creating a potential lesson plan, preparing a lesson, providing instruction and evaluating results. The Future Teachers of Alabama organization started the “Grow Our Own” Initiative to provide school systems with additional opportunities to focus on activities that promote teaching as a career and encourage students to strongly consider the field of education as a future. The students were recognized at the Alabama State Department of Education Board Meeting on May 9, 2024. Senator Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman, invited Hill, Doyle and their instructor Ben Heatherly to the Alabama Senate, where they were recognized for their accomplishment.
‘Genius Hour’ at West Elementary
CULLMAN, Ala. – West Elementary fourth and sixth graders participated in a “Genius Hour” program this year. “Mrs. Regan Caldwell, West Elementary School’s counselor, and I hosted what we call a ‘Genius Hour’ for grades four and six this year (one in the fall and one in the spring),” said West Elementary Gifted Education Teacher Miranda Gunter. “The purpose of this hour is to expose students to hobbies, careers and talents that they can pursue further if desired. Final Call for Hanceville Residents: Apply to WSCC Nursing Program by Tomorrow
The Wallace State Department of Nursing Education in Hanceville, AL, has announced a deadline for Fall 2024 admissions applications: Wednesday, May 15. The nursing program offers several educational pathways, including a new evening option for the first three semesters of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program at the Hanceville campus. There is also a joint enrollment option with Athens State University, allowing students to pursue an associate degree at Wallace State and a bachelor’s degree at Athens State simultaneously.
