Lady Panthers finish third at Wichita XC meet; boys seventh
On the girls' side, the Class 5A ranks have been dominated in recent years by the likes of Lenexa's St. James Academy and Overland Park. A pair of Wichita private schools are making their push back into the top of the class. At Saturday's The Rush at Brown Thrush Invitational in Wichita, Bishop Carroll edged Kapaun by three spots for the win with 45 points. Great Bend scored 52 points for third place, 60 spots ahead of fourth-place De Soto.
Great Bend to host sixth-consecutive cross country regional
Many decades ago, Lake Barton north of Great Bend was a hub of activity. Great Bend High School Cross Country Coach Lyles Lashley is again making the area a destination. The Panther Invitational early each fall has grown from just a handful of teams to more than two dozen schools, making it one of the largest meets in Central Kansas. Lashley said it will require another community effort when Lake Barton hosts regional cross country races for a sixth-straight year on Oct. 26.
