Local Pride: Chanute High Secures Second Place, Humboldt Wins Again at State Journalism Contest
Chanute High School's journalism team won second place in the 4A category at the 2024 State Contest, according to the Kansas Scholastic Press Association. The team qualified for this competition through Regional Contests held in February.
NCCC Board Approves Budget Changes and Employee Raises for 2023-24
The Neosho County Community College (NCCC) Board of Trustees approved a budget amendment for the 2023-24 academic year and salary raises for employees during the regular May NCCC Board of Trustees meeting held Wednesday. Trustees approved increases in salaries for non-faculty employees, minimum salaries for management support staff, and revised the classification and pay for hourly, non-exempt employees prior to April 1.Visit here for more details.
Local Scholars Shine: Neosho County Community College Honors Students at Academic Awards Ceremony
Neosho County Community College held the 2024 Academic Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, April 30. Students were recognized in various programs and organizations for academic excellence during the 2023-24 academic year. Outstanding Student awards were selected by the department faculty for excellence within a program. Sigma Alpha awards and honor chords were awarded to the top 10% of the graduating class.Visit here for more details.
Local Talent Spotlight: NCCC Art Students Shine at Annual Show
The Neosho County Community College Art Department recently held a reception for its annual Student Art Show at Sanders Hall. The event displayed artwork from students in various drawing and painting classes, showcasing their skills developed during the 2023-24 academic year. Janae Bartlett, a student from the Drawing II class, won the Best in Show award for her detailed colored pencil drawing of succulents. The show awarded first, second, and third place in each class, as well as honorable mentions. The reception provided an opportunity for NCCC students to present their work to peers, faculty, and visitors, emphasizing the value of arts education and its role in promoting artistic expression and appreciation in the college community.'Visit here for more details.

Chanute High School to Enhance Agricultural Studies with New Animal Science Center
Plans are in place to build a new Animal Science Learning Center at Chanute High School. The center will include a classroom and lab area, spaces for live animal care, and sections for feed trials and animal product processing. The goal is to improve hands-on learning in animal science.
