Slight Improvement in Neosho County's March Unemployment Figures
Neosho County’s jobless percentage marginally decreased from 4% in February to 3.8% in March while the state’s number remained the same. The unemployment rate for Kansas stayed steady month to month at 2.7%, which was also the same rate in March 2023.Visit here for more details.
Chanute City Commission Reviews Plans for Restoration of Storm-Damaged Downtown Buildings
Chanute city commissioners looked at plans from owners of four buildings in downtown Chanute destroyed by a storm in early April 2023. Buildings the commission reviewed at last Monday’s meeting were 23/25 W. Main,; 29 W. Main; 101 S. Grant; and 313 E. Main. Commissioners looked at a packet of plans for each property and also heard from some owners. The city hired Keystone KC Engineering, LLC in order to develop studies for each of the buildings.Visit here for more details.

Upcoming Road Repairs in April to Affect Traffic in Multiple Local Counties
The week of April 22 the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) expects to start a mudjacking project that includes various locations in Allen, Bourbon, Coffey, Franklin, Greenwood, Labette, Miami, Neosho, Osage and Wilson counties. Mudjacking improves road-to-bridge transitions by using polyurethane foam to raise and level concrete bridge approach slabs and highway and shoulder panels. Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zones; expect brief delays.Visit here for more details.
Neosho County Unemployment Rate Rises to 4% in February 2024
The state of Kansas and Neosho County both saw unemployment increases during February 2024. The jobless rate for Neosho County in February was 4%, up from 3.4% recorded in January. Of the 6,124 people eligible to work, 5,881 had jobs and 243 did not.Visit here for more details.
CRDA's Housing Initiatives Improve Chanute's Appeal Through New Builds and Renovations
Since its establishment in 2011, the Chanute Regional Development Authority (CRDA) has been adjusting its strategies to meet evolving economic development needs. Initially, the CRDA focused on Business Retention, Expansion, Recruitment, and Entrepreneurship. By 2024, it expanded its strategy to include Talent Development and Quality of Place initiatives.

Neosho County Community College (NCCC) received the 2024 Post-Secondary Program of the Year award from Build Up Kansas. The award was given at the semiannual conference organized by the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) and the Associated General Contractors of Kansas (AGC).
