Eighth-grader Gabrielle Camaj’s wish was granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation in front of her entire grade. Yorktown, Lakeland Voters OK School Budgets, Return BOE Incumbents
YORKTOWN, N.Y.—Yorktown and Lakeland school district voters decisively approved their respective school budgets on Tuesday, May 21. Each district also returned incumbents to the school board. In Yorktown Central School District, voters said "yes" to the administration's $119,110,000 budget by a margin of 492-122. Seventeen votes went to write-in candidates. Lakeland's $191,413,753 passed by 779-299. The district's vehicle bond proposition passed by 745-329. With four candidates vying for three seats, incumbents Mike Daly (735 votes), Anna Massaro (758), and Becky Burfeind (708) were returned to the school board. Voters Approve Katonah-Lewisboro School Budget, Fill Three Board of Ed Seats
CROSS RIVER, N.Y. - Voters in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District overwhelmingly approved a $124 million budget for next year and elected three school members in balloting Tuesday (May 21). Marjorie Schiff, a veteran of 12 years on the school board and its president for eight, was easily re-elected to a fifth term with 1,115 votes. But the top vote-getter among five trustee hopefuls was Barbara Williams, vice president of the Meadow Pond PTO, with 1,149. Poffenberger’s term begins immediately, replacing William Rifkin. After three terms on the board, Rifkin agreed last year to serve one more year to filling a sudden vacancy. The budget sailed to easy passage, 1,179 to 517. Mahopac Unified Basketball to Host Brewster on May 28
MAHOPAC, N.Y. — The Mahopac Wolf Pac unified basketball team staged a furious comeback in a home game against Brewster earlier this month, falling just short before an enthusiastic crowd at the high school gym. Now in its third season, the team’s roster includes students with special needs and their general education teammates who play five to six games a year. The program’s success has led Mahopac to add unified bowling to its athletic programs.
