New commercial vehicle inspection station opens on I-495
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) recently opened a new commercial vehicle inspection station along I-495. On May 16, NYSDOT officials announced the opening of a new commercial carrier vehicle roadside inspection station located on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway (I-495), between Exits 53 and 51 in the Town of Huntington. The station will be manned by NYSDOT and local law enforcement, who will conduct routine CMV inspections to ensure compliance with trucking regulations. Over 21,000 trucks utilize the L.I.E. every day, which equates to approximately 11% of all its daily traffic, NYSDOT says. “This new inspection station provides a new avenue for vehicle inspections to occur on one of Long Island’s busiest roads. It will serve as an important location to safeguard all those traveling on the Long Island Expressway,” said NYSDOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez. “Keeping our state highways safe requires a multifaceted approach. We must ensure oversized vehicles are abiding by the law, and that the integrity of our infrastructure is kept intact.” Senator Monica Martinez said, “The Long Island Expressway’s new truck inspection site will help put the brakes on dangerous commercial vehicles being on our roadways. Through routine inspections at this repurposed parking area, motor carrier safety examiners and law enforcement will have a centrally located and safe site from which to ensure trucking vehicle laws are being followed and the safety of all motorists is protected.”

NJ21st – Three Years of Shining a Light
This year, the team had serious discussions about whether we would shut down, keep doing what we were doing, or expand. Given the level of disinformation and the collusion of powerful groups in this community around issues, we did not feel we had a choice but to continue. There is no way that accurate information would get to anyone about the local government if we did not exist – which is why – if you pay attention – all the predictable voices are coming out of the woodwork again.
